Uni Room

I’ve been playing with SketchUp this afternoon. I dunno why it pauses between the key frames, I’m pretty sure I’ve set it properly.

Weirdsomnia

Monday, May 14th, 2012

Well, this is odd. Usually when I can’t sleep I have immense difficulty dozing off until around 5-6:00am. Now, I drift off quite easily but seem to awake at 5-6:00am and unable to drift off back to sleep. I’m not being woken up by any external factors, not even Cuzco is making any noise.

Yet Another 3D Rendering

Saturday, May 12th, 2012

Unsatisfied with the botched mouse test. I did another using something more complex (Mini replica of the Fat Lady statuette found at Hagar Qim) and with more consistently exposed frames and the result I’d say is pretty neat! If I really wanted to, I could manipulate it and have the resulting object 3D printed.

Further to my previous post, 123D Catch is also available as a webapp.

3D-Ness

Friday, May 11th, 2012

Over the past couple of days or so, I’ve been fiddling around with some 3D drawings and came across 123D Catch. It’s available as an iPhone or iPad app from the US iTunes store or you could download the PC version from their site and use pics from your camera. In a nutshell, it takes your series of photos and generates a 3D model out of it. A bit like Photosynth but in 3D. The nitty gritty processing happens in the cloud which is pretty neat, but it does take a while.

My first test was of a dental floss container using my iPad and the results looked like an amorphous blob. I gave it another whirl using my G11 and the PC app with my mouse as the test subject. It’s still not brilliant and shows dents that’d rival my car but an improvement over the dental floss one.

On The Fence

I don’t blog much. I haven’t really blogged much at all in months. Once again, I find myself wondering if perhaps I should either leave it as is and archive it on my site or delete it altogether. Seeing as I’m paid up for my domain and hosting for the next couple of years, I could just turn it into a public portfolio/travel blog.

There have been times in the past couple of months where I’ve felt the need to write something, I’ll get started with the title but leave it at that as a draft with the intention of writing a post but it nearly always ends up being deleted because I either have no motivation or have forgotten what I was going to write in the first place.

There’s the backlog of travel reports too, stretching back to South Africa in 2009 which have yet to be written and posted. I haven’t even uploaded a gallery of my last couple of trips either.

Photosynth Test

Hmn… not too bad for a first try. There wasn’t any planning involved in the way I shot the individual frames. More frames required though.

Tumblr – The Repository of Nonsense

Saturday, May 5th, 2012

I have a new Tumblr account primarily for the curation of things I’ve found interesting on the Web. It’s called ‘The Repository of Nonsense‘. From now on, this blog will focus on my own original content.

Yes, I could’ve used Pintrest, but it’s become too mainstream.
