Injured Cat
Friday, June 24th, 2011Feline Antics
Tuesday, June 14th, 2011Cici’s friend has invited herself into the house for lunch again. She’s too well maintained to be a stray and must belong to someone. I wonder if Cici’s been eating her food and this is her way of retaliating.
A couple of weeks ago, she popped up to my room and then darted out when she saw I’d spotted her.

Wednesday, May 25th, 2011Intruder Alert
Friday, May 20th, 2011There was a feline intruder in the garden this evening. Haven’t seen this one before, but judging by his general unkemptness, I’d say that it is without a fixed abode. Cici wasn’t exactly thrilled to have him in the garden.
Margaret the Magpie
Thursday, May 19th, 2011Cici took down a juvi magpie yesterday, seemingly oblivious to the parent magpies yelling at him, it suffered some scratches, a damaged wing, possibly a broken leg or torn tendon and lost a few feathers. Instead of leaving Cici to dispatch it, I decided to shoo him away and the bird’s now recouperating in shed.
I estimate it’s 4-8 weeks old, had some difficulty feeding it yesterday but today it seems to be eating alright, in fact, it chowed down nearly the entire bowl of water soaked catfood over the last couple of days.
I’m doubtful it’ll make a full recovery and be able to fly, it’s fairly immobile, might have to take it to a wildlife rehab centre, but it seems happy enough in its box.

Sunday, April 3rd, 2011Temperature temp
Friday, April 1st, 2011Think my heater might be on the blink. I need the water to be at a constant 26oC while I’m treating the tank for ich. Noticed that the heating element was still on this morning even though the thermometer read 30oC, the built in thermostat’s suppose to switch it off once the water reaches the defined temperature. To check, I popped in a spare analogue thermometer and put new batteries into the digital one after turning the heater down to 22oC just to be on the safe side. A few hours later, I see the values are different between the analogue and digital one and the heater still on. Now, one analogue read 26oC, the other 29oC and the digital one 31oC, but according to the heater, it still wasn’t 22oC so it just kept heating. I’ve turned the heater to its lowest at 20oC hoping to compensate for it’s lack of sensitivity. Just to be sure of the temp in the tank, I’ve dunked in my watch which has a built-in thermometer so shall see how that goes.
