Very Sneaky
Friday, November 4th, 2011HSBC and McAfee are in cahoots!
Last month, I got an email from McAfee telling me that the subscription for my anti-virus was going to expire soon (4th Nov 2011 to be precise) and that I should renew it soon. I had better things to do and quite quickly forgot about it. Anyway, I figured I wouldn’t be charged in any case as I’ve got a different card from when I renewed by license the last time (in the past 12 months, I’d managed to loose my credit card twice!).
This morning, I got an email from them telling me that they have received payment for renewal of my license. I didn’t want to renew it. Previously it was free as I’m an HSBC customer, then they charged around £24 last year and now the cost has gone up to £40-something. I got home this afternoon and logged into my McAfee account to find that auto renew had been switched to on and I’m pretty sure I had switched it off to start with. I went on to check my credit card details and well I never, they seem to have somehow automatically updated the details in line with my current card. HSBC has obviously passed my details on.
Some might say that all this is just to make one’s life easier, but quite frankly, I find it rather intrusive.Thankfully (I might be saying this too soon), I managed to contact them via online chat and my refund request has been put through. I should expect to be credited between 5-10 days.
In addition, Skype for some reason has changed my top-up option back to auto-renew. You really need to keep an eye on these things.

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011Geek indulgence – Geekdulgence
Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011I passed my driving test yesterday (yay!) and decided to reward myself with a nice new timepiece – a Casio Protrek 2000 with all the bells and whistles – atomic sync, solar, altimeter, barometer, compass, sunrise, sunset, oh and of course, it tells the time. Now I just need a mountain to climb…
New Clothes
Friday, March 18th, 2011I’m quite fond of those el cheapo silicon iPhone covers, but after a while, they tend to stretch and get a bit saggy, even the name brand ones. So, I picked up a fetching new case (Case-mate Hybrid Tough) for my phone, it’s got a silicon sleeve which nestles between the phone itself and a hard outer case.
iOS Update
Wednesday, March 16th, 2011It always makes me a bit nervous when it comes to updating my iOS.
WP iPhone App: The Saga Continues
Tuesday, March 8th, 2011A few months ago, I whined about the iOS WordPress app. A few updates later and I’m still having issues.
I’ve enabled XML-RPC publishing protocols in the settings already, the URL, Username and Password are all correct but I keep getting this pop up -
I’ve spent the best part of the afternoon fiddling around with the xmlrpc.php and .htaccess files as suggested by the forums and others but no luck.
*sigh*
Yup, yes smartphone for me
Friday, December 17th, 2010I really love my iPhone, still shiny and filled with oodles of apps! It’s just so handy, I can check my emails on the run, pretend that I’m in the office, tweet while having dinner with chums, check the Tube status and of course, have a nosey on Facebook.
Some people are really missing out. :-p
WP iPhone App
Tuesday, November 16th, 2010I’ve used the WordPress iPhone app in the past and although a little buggy at times, I could still upload my posts. I’ve updated to the latest incarnation of the app and won’t even let me log in!! The username and password’s correct and I’ve enabled the XML thingy in the settings. The app still refuses to let me in. Sometimes, it’ll tell me about some XML endpoint blah blah.
What was a usable app has become craptastic. I’m most displeased. A wander over to the WP iOS forums shows that I aint the only one with such WordPress woes.
*Sigh* I preferred the app to signing into my blog through Safari.
