Danesfield in IR
Saturday, August 20th, 2011A couple of weeks ago while out cycling around Danesfield, I took my G11 along for some IR. For some reason, this time, they didn’t come out as well as the Stocker’s Lake ones. I got a hotspot in each of the pics I took, it was more obvious in the longer exposed colour versions than when converted to black and white. I’d even covered the viewfinder, but that made a blind bit of difference.
Perhaps IR with the G11 doesn’t work for all types of pics.
G11 infrared test
Saturday, July 30th, 2011Fantabulous France
Sunday, August 15th, 2010This post is a bit out of sync, but the week before the trip to Stonehenge, I was on a roadtrip with some chums around Brittany, France. I had to pack light due to negotiating the transfer between Gare du Nord to Montparnasse in Paris and had read that there was a fair bit of walking up and down corridors so only took the G11 with me. There were probably two instances where I really missed my DSLR – shooting the insides of churches with an ultra-wide angle and a kestrel perched on a menhir with a telephoto.
It’s been a couple of weeks since France and I can’t remember precisely the day to day details of it which is probably a good thing since it’ll keep this post at a reasonable length. There seemed to be lots of eating, especially huitres, moules et frites! It’s got to be said that they’re really rather fond of their fruits de la mer in Brittany. In Cancale, Xiao and I shared a massive platter. In Perros-Guriec, I had a great meal, moules for my first starter, lobster for my second starter, steak and chips for my main course and a slice of far Breton for desert. Mmm… it was all very tasty. I do believe that we were the last to leave the restaurant that night, they were pretty much shutting up shop while we were still lingering there.
The other thing Bretons seem to be quite fond of are menhirs. There were lots and lots of menhirs, tululi, dolmens and all those prehistoric mysterious relics.
I guess if I had to sum Brittany up, it’s just full of oysters, mussels and menhirs. Ooodles and oodles of them.
Walk with my G11
Friday, December 11th, 2009Yesterday evening after work I went shopping for some heavy duty gloves for an up coming winter sports holiday. I had my G11 with me and did a spot of night photography, strolled around Covent Garden, down to Trafalgar Square and ending at Picadilly. The Christmas lights this year are somewhat abyssmal. I reminised about how when I was an undergraduate, Jac and I would go night photographying along the river in the freezing cold. Oh the memories. It’s not quite so much fun when you’re shooting solo.
Here are a couple of pics I’ve taken so far with the G11. It’s a very capable piece of kit!
£400 lighter…
Wednesday, December 2nd, 2009….and a G11 heavier. An early Christmas present from me to me.
A line up of my Canon compacts. The A590 in the middle will be “disposed” of via the eBay route while the teeny Ixus i5 will still stick around as the party cam… not that I’m an avid party fan. Hmn… perhaps I’ll get rid of that too.
I could post a review of the G11, but there are so many about already. It’s really neat and solid. If my 40D and A590 had a baby, the G11 would be it.
